Inland Revenue Valuation Office Survey 1910 - 1915 - "The Lloyd George Census"

At the January 2025 meeting, Society President Andrew Todd related how over the last three years he has been visiting the National Archives at Kew to photograph the 1910-15 valuations of all 4,581 properties in the old Ramsbottom Urban District. The 600 streets included are a fraction of the huge national survey, christened the 'New Domesday Survey', instigated by Chancellor David Lloyd George as the baseline for a new and highly controversial value added tax on land sales.
Andrew has also photographed the 60 or so detailed maps, drawn up at the time to show the precise locations of each property.
