OLD ENGINE

Off Nuttall Hall Road – the narrow road which provides vehicular access to Nuttall Park from Bury New Road.

The only reference found is in Hume Elliot’s Book – ‘now converted to houses- was once a busy carding mill run at one time by the paternal grandfather of the late Messrs Wild Brothers of Shuttleworth.[Elliot page 111].

The houses, to which Hume Elliot refers, were on the 1842 Tithe Map so this mill must have been demolished before then. There were three houses, which were listed in most of the censuses from 1841 onwards.  However, they are now reduced to rubble which can be seen in the undergrowth if you look carefully enough.
