CRICKET CLUB CELEBRATES 175 YEARS

In recognition of its 175 years of existence, a commemorative book has been written celebrating the history of Ramsbottom Cricket Club going back in time to 1845.

Aptly titled ‘175 Not Out!’, this illustrated book is written by Nigel Jepson who, in recent times, has made something of a habit of penning books on themes local to our area. Two years ago, he wrote ‘Come On You Rams’ charting the life and times of Ramsbottom Football Club since being founded in 1966. Last year, his book ‘Ramsbottom’s Revolutionary Doctor’ told the story of radical local 19th century doctor Peter Murray McDouall.

Nigel says: ‘175 Not Out!’ takes me very much back to the sporting arena. In the course of researching material, it was fascinating talking with many of the current and ex-players who have contributed so significantly to the highly impressive record of cricketing success of Ramsbottom Cricket Club, particularly in more recent years’.
As an original member of the Lancashire League, formed in 1892, Rammy has been notably successful over the years in attracting to its ranks many world-class professional players such as leading Aussie captains Ian Chappell and Michael Clarke.

As well as the famous players to have graced Acre Bottom, few other cricket grounds can offer a more iconic atmosphere and setting than that epitomised by its splendid green and cream striped club pavilion, built back in 1904.

The Club’s roll of honour, from 1892 onwards, reveals a remarkable record of success. Going beyond the raw facts and figures, ‘175 Not Out!’ explores the human dimension, putting forward rich and often amusing first-hand accounts from the very many players who have made a lasting mark on the life of the club and also the local community.
‘175 Not Out!’ offers an entertaining and informative read for all lovers of the game of cricket, particularly in relation to the broader Lancashire League setting.

Please note: A SPECIAL BOOK LAUNCH EVENT has been arranged to take place at
