From Michael J Lane

We are researching my wife’s family in Bury and having just visited your site would be grateful for any assistance. We recently visited Bury where we found some information at Bury Library also Bury cemetery.

My wife’s family name is Taylor and her Grandfather Frank Taylor was one of the principles of Taylor and Nicholson Co Bleachers and Dyers Walmersley Dye Works Mather Road Bury and Eagley Bleach Works Eagley. During our recent visit we located the site of the mill at Mather Road. The main principle of the firm was Charles Egerton Taylor who resided at The Lee Walmersley Road and Brandlesholme New hall, which was where he died suddenly in 1934. The Taylors were in the Bleaching business between 1880 and 1934, initially under the style of their father Thomas Taylor Co, then Taylor and Rumney Blackford Bridge and finally Taylor and Nicholson Co. Nathaniel Nicholson of Farnworth was a partner in the firm in addition to working for his father’s firm William Nicholson of Mill Hill Bleachworks. All six sons were involved in the firm.

If anyone has any information or data on the Taylor family and/or firm of Taylor & Nicholson I would be most grateful to hear from them.
