The society was formed in 1987 to record the past and present history of the town for future generations and historians. Our large archive of donated photographs, documents and maps-well over 4000 items-has outgrown the Centre and is now maintained by Bury Metro Borough Council at the Bury Museum and Archive, Moss St, Bury BL9 0DG 0161 253 6782. www.bury.gov.uk/archives
We are unable to spend any time researching any Family trees or history of houses e.t.c. although if there are requests these can be asked at the monthly meetings when one or more members may be able to help. The local Family History Society is based in Preston. Contact Vicky Barlow, Bob's Ley, 6 Mowbreck Lane, Wesham, Preston, Lancs PR4 3HA.
The Institute of Local and Family History, part of the University of Central Lancashire also run courses on using the internet to research Family trees. See the website www.localand familyhistory.com
